From February 12 to 14, 2010, this year's Malmo Open sports event took place and was once again attended by hundreds of amputee athletes and athletes with other disabilities from many countries.

The Malmö Open was organized for the first time in 1977, when only 25 table tennis players took part in the competition.

The number of participating athletes changed in 1979, when the Malmö Open was expanded and more disciplines added. Soon the competion was attended by more than 1000 disabled athletes yearly.

Thanks to the determination of one of Sweden's largest sports associations for disabled athletes, the Föreningen idrott för handikappade (FIFH), and the help and support of the Malmö Municipality, the competition has even grown further over the years and has recently attracted more than 2000 participants competing in 14 different events.

Among them are Wheelchair Basketball, Sledge Hockey, Table Tennis, Swimming.

Vom 12. bis 14. Februar 2010 haben die diesjährigen Malmö Open stattgefunden. Zum wiederholten Male waren hunderte behinderte Sportler aus vielen Ländern zum Wettkampf angereist.

Die ersten Malmö Open wurden im Jahre 1977 organisiert, als gerade einmal 25 Tischtennisspieler am Turnier teilgenommen haben.

Dank der Entschlossenheit eines der größten Sportverbände Schwedens, der Föreningen idrott för handikappade (FIFH), und der Hilfe der Stadtverwaltung von Malmö hat sich der Wettkampf im Laufe der Jahre jedoch zu einem der größten jährlich stattfindenden Sportereignisse für Athleten mit Behinderung entwickelt.

Heutzutage werden Wettkämpfe in 14 verschiedenen Sportarten, u.a. Rollstuhlbasketball, Eishockey, Schwimmen, Goalball und Tischtennis, für mehr als 2000 TeilnehmerInnen organisiert.
