Paralympic Games London 2012 Photos Set 3

For eleven days, hundreds of amputee athletes, wheelchair athletes and athletes with other disabilities from around the world came to London to take part in the 2012 Paralympic Summer Games.

The Paralympics are the second biggest sports event after the Olympic Games. Athletes compete in various sports, including swimming, sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, wheelchair fencing and athletics.

During the last Paralympic Games in 2008, China won the most Gold medals, with the teams from the U.K. coming in second and the USA third.

Most successful athletes during the last Paralympics include swimmer Matthew Codrey of Australia, who won 5 Gold and three Silver medals, and the South African amputee swimmer Natalie du Toit and Canadian wheelchair racer Chantal Petitclerc who won five Gold medals each.
