From December 1 to 6, 2011, amputee and Wheelchair athletes from Japan, Iran, China, Croatia, Poland, Russia and many other countries were in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, for the 2011 International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports (IWAS) World Games. The competition was organized in the Althiqah Club for the Handicapped
and at the campus of the American University.
Participants took part in several sports, including athletics, swimming, power lifting and table tennis. Beside of these Paralympic sports, an Amputee Football Show event was organised, presented by the GB Ampute Football team and the Russian Amputee Soccer team.
Disabled athletes from the People's Republic of China won 18 Gold medals, followed by the athletes of the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran, which won 12 Gold medals each.
