Sitting Volleyball during the ASEAN Para Games Kuala Lumpur Set 5

From August 15 to 19, 2009 more than 1200 amputee athletes, wheelchair athletes and athletes with other disabilities were in Kuala Lumpur for the 5th ASEAN Para Games.

Considered the biggest multi-sports and multi-disability sporting event for athletes with a disability in the ASEAN region, the ASEAN Para Games have been organized every two years since the formation of the ASEAN Sports Federation in 2001.

This time the following countries were taking part: Malaysia, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam and East Timor. The official Opening Ceremony took place in the evening of August 15 in Kuala Lumpur’s Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil, which is also the location of the National Stadium, where the Athletics competition were being organized.

The first ASEAN Para Games were also held in Kuala Lumpur from 25 to 30 October 2001, the following Games were organized two years later in Hanoi, Vietnam, in 2005 in Manila, Philippines and in 2007 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
